The problem
A previous company felled a large cottonwood and left the stump sitting in the middle of the backyard lawn. It was too wide to mow around and was starting to sucker back.
What we did
We walked a tracked grinder through the side gate, ground the stump and the flare roots 8–10 inches below grade, then backfilled the hole with the grindings the homeowner wanted to keep.
The result
The lawn area was mowable again the same afternoon and the homeowner could topsoil and re-seed without waiting on an excavator.
