Professional Tree Trimming & Pruning
Good tree pruning does two things: it keeps your trees safe (no widow-makers over the driveway, no branches on the roof), and it makes them grow better. Bad pruning does the opposite — topping, over-thinning, and lion-tailing can hurt a tree for decades. Our crews prune to arboriculture standards, not chainsaw shortcuts.
Tree Pruning for Healthier, Safer Trees
Structural pruning on young trees sets a strong central leader and eliminates competing stems before they become a failure point. On mature trees, targeted cuts reduce end weight on long limbs and open the canopy so wind passes through instead of pushing against it.
Deadwood & Hazardous Branch Removal
Dead limbs don't get better on their own — they get brittle and drop. We remove deadwood, hangers, cracked limbs and storm-damaged branches over driveways, patios and play areas.
Tree Trimming for Roof & Property Clearance
Branches on shingles trap moisture and feed gutters with debris; limbs over a fence line or service drop become a liability. We prune back for proper clearance from roofs, gutters, chimneys, driveways and power drops without butchering the tree's shape.
Crown Thinning & Canopy Reduction
Thinning selectively removes interior branches to let light and air through — great for lawns struggling under dense maples. Reduction shortens the overall spread using proper cuts back to lateral branches, so the tree stays balanced instead of exploding with water sprouts.
Fruit Tree Pruning
Apples, pears, peaches and cherries all need annual attention to stay productive. We open the center, remove crossing wood and water sprouts, and keep fruit within reach — timed to the right winter or summer window for the species.
When Is the Best Time to Trim Trees in Utah?
Late winter through early spring, while trees are dormant, is ideal for most Utah shade and fruit trees — cuts close fast and there's no leaf cover hiding structure. Deadwood and hazard limbs can be removed any time of year. Avoid heavy pruning on elms and oaks in mid-summer when disease pressure is highest.
Tree Trimming vs. Tree Removal
Trimming is almost always cheaper than removal, and many trees homeowners think are doomed just need weight reduced and deadwood cleared. If a tree is structurally failing, hollow, or dead, we'll say so plainly and quote tree removal instead. We can also trim some trees and remove others on the same visit.
Text photos of the trees you want trimmed and we'll send back pricing, usually within a couple of hours. Most tree trimming jobs in Salt Lake County can be scheduled within a week.
