The problem
The stump sat hard against a backyard fence, so the grinder head could not swing to the back side without hitting the panels.
What we did
We ground everything reachable from the open side, then hand-excavated the remaining back edge and root collar so the fence and posts stayed untouched.
The result
The stump came out completely with the fence intact and the excavation backfilled and tamped level.
